Here's a little of the history of The Lobster Trap
Our family's charming and comfortable old home has been called "The Lobster Trap" since its days as a restaurant and boarding house back in the 1930s.
Built in 1900, she has stood proudly on Bayview Street, keeping watch as the neighboring wharf sheltered first the old-time steamboats plying the waters of Penobscot Bay down to Boston and beyond, then the fishing boats at the Stonington sardine cannery, and now t he Isle au Haut mailboats, "Mink" and "Miss Lizzie," as they make their runs to that pristine island 7 miles south, part of Acadia National Park.
Our parents, Ed -- known to all as Tiny -- and Nancy Rice, bought the house in 1970 and enjoyed having company all summer long. They loved giving their many friends and family the chance to spend a week or two experiencing "life in the slow lane." Mom's lobster dinners, reading on the deck, sailing with Dad, picnicking on the many little islands, and coming home with shells and rocks and washed-up buoys: These are our memories.
Mom and Dad were known to share their house with passers-by who needed a place to rest their heads, and we know they'd approve of the lovely families who have rented the house since 2007, our first rental season. And in turn, our guests have felt that special welcoming feeling and have given us enthusiastic reviews!
